About:
The Raffia Kat

Hey there!
I'm Kat — a mum to three gorgeous boys, living in a tiny house on wheels tucked away in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, Victoria.
For over a decade, I have coiled, woven, and stitched with raffia, but I could never find an affordable, beautiful, and truly customer-focused source for my supplies.
So, my dream was born: to create a business that offers beautiful materials, hand-dyed with love, that makers like you could trust, afford, and be excited to use.
When you hold a bundle of my raffia or a handful of colourful emu feathers, you’re holding something made with care. The raffia is soft and rustley, the feathers are light and silky — they’re bright, full of personality, and made to bring a little joy and colour into your hands.
The raffia I use is the best you can find — Beselampy Extra Grade from Madagascar — sustainably and ethically sourced under the watchful eye of their Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. The emu feathers come from a local farm right here in Victoria, where the birds are treated with care, respect, and a focus on their wellbeing.
To keep honouring these beautiful gifts from nature, I dye with heart. Most of my raffia is coloured using natural dyes — extracts, flowers, nuts, food scraps — creating vibrant, and earthy tones. Emu feathers need something a bit special — professional dyes that keep the colours bright and wash-resistant.
Every bundle I pack is personal. I honestly have you in mind — hoping you’ll find inspiration, joy, and creativity when you open it. I LOVE seeing what you make, hearing your stories, and being a small part of your creative journey.
Your creativity means everything — it’s what keeps this little business alive.
So, thank you, truly, for supporting The Raffia Kat and for letting me support your beautiful ideas too.
Happy making,
Kat x 🌻
